How to Repair and Prevent Driveway Erosion

Assuming you live in a slopey region, there is a high chance that you will experience driveway erosion.

1. Prepare a French drain

A French drain comprises a punctured line inserted in the gravel inside a trench. You can burrow the trench down the centre of the driveway or along the edge, yet regardless, the driveway should incline toward it, so water drains into it and doesn't simply structure an alternate stream.

To set up a French drain, first, clear part of the driveway you need to burrow a trench. Dig one trench around 12 to 18 inches down and another that branches from the primary one. Fill the bottom of the trench with two inches of 1/2-inch drain rock. Lay 3-or 4-inch punctured drain pipe in the fundamental tunnel. Introduce a tee on principle pipe at the crossing point of each tunnel that branches off and interfaces nonperforated drain line to them. Lay the non-punctured drain pipe in the middle of the branch trench to divert the water. Then, at that point, refill the trench with 1/2-inch drain rock utilising a digging tool.

2. Install culverts and channel drains

A culvert is a length of drainpipe that goes under the driveway and gives a way to water on the higher side to stream downhill. Although you can use smaller culverts, use large ones as the small ones get clogged quickly and need clearing more often. When digging a trench, ensure to keep it slanted toward the declining side of the driveway.

The trench you dig for the channel drain should also be slanted towards the driveway declining side. This kind of drain, which comprises a mesh, can sufficiently withstand vehicles.

3. Crushed rock

Pour and uniformly spread a sub-base of bigger crushed rock, trailed by a more modest crushed stone base, add a layer of gravel, and spread it on the driveway. When completed, the driveway ought to be to some degree higher than the encompassing soil and vegetation.
